130_JD-logoFoodDrinkEurope, the trade body representing Europe’s food and drink manufacturers, of which IMACE is a member published a press release on World Food Day 2013 (16 October) to their efforts to build a more sustainable food supply chain.

In Europe, about 90 million tonnes of food is wasted annually despite over 35 million people being at risk of malnutrition. Every actor in the food chain must take its responsibility to change this situation.

The European food industry, represented by FoodDrinkEurope, launched
a joint initiative earlier this year, together with other food chain partners, known as the Joint Food Wastage Declaration ‘Every Crumb Counts’. Signatories to the Joint Declaration have pledged to work towards preventing edible food waste, promoting a lifecycle approach and proactively feeding into solutions and
initiatives in this area.
